RStudio Server is an integrated development environment (IDE) for R. It includes a console, syntax-highlighting editor that supports direct code execution, as well as tools for plotting, history, debugging and workspace management.
ICS Computing Support runs RStudio for the following research groups:
- Stats: stats-3.ics.uci.edu
- IGB: c1ccccc1-35.ics.uci.edu
- Sensorium: sensoria-1.ics.uci.edu
The community edition of Rstudio Server runs via the unsecured HTTP protocol. This means that any traffic between client and server, including login credentials, is transmitted in plain text.
See here for more information about http plain text versus https.
In order to address this concern, create a tunnel using forwarding local port 8787 to your server's port 8787 (e.g. stats-3.ics.uci.edu port 8787).
Here is an article that describes the steps to SSH tunnel RDP through a firewall using Putty: https://www.saotn.org/tunnel-rdp-through-ssh/
Once you are connected via SSH tunnel, you may point your browser to the following address:
